(FORT McMURRAY, AB – December 2, 2016)
A $2-million gift from Syncrude will support the addition of four advanced surgical suites at the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre.
The donation will help renovate four operating rooms into Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) suites as well as upgrade two more operating theatres. This is one of eight projects undertaken by the Health Foundation’s $16-million Gratitude Campaign.
“We know how important quality health care is to this region,” said Mark Ward, Syncrude’s President and CEO. “Anytime people can receive medical treatment in Fort McMurray rather than having to travel down the highway is something we all welcome. We are pleased to make this investment and continue our longstanding support of the Northern Lights Health Foundation.”
The suites allow for smaller surgical incisions, which reduce patient recovery time, post-operative scarring and pain medication. Surgeons can also connect with health care providers virtually anywhere in the world during procedures via video and teleconference.
“We are extremely grateful to Syncrude for their generous gift to the Gratitude Campaign,” said Melanie Antoine, Chair of the Health Foundation’s Board of Directors. “We are very proud to have Syncrude as lead donor for the Gratitude Campaign, and as a major partner in our vision of bringing world class health care to Wood Buffalo. Their gift to the MIS Suites Project will have an incredible impact on patients and their loved ones in our community.”
The Syncrude Project is a joint venture undertaking among Imperial Oil Resources; Mocal Energy Limited; Nexen Oil Sands Partnership; Sinopec Oil Sands Partnership; and Suncor Energy Inc. (with the Suncor interest held by Canadian Oil Sands Partnership #1 and Suncor Energy Ventures Partnership, both wholly owned affiliates of Suncor Energy Inc.).
