Incident at Syncrude's Mildred Lake Facility

At about 2 p.m., a fire broke out inside the plant 7-3 diluent recovery unit (DRU) at Syncrude’s Mildred Lake facility.

Five people – four contractors and one Syncrude employee – are currently being treated for injuries.

Syncrude emergency personnel have extinguished the fire and operations have isolated the unit. The extent of the damage to 7-3 is believed to be minor but the full extent is not known at this time.

Syncrude has informed Alberta Environment, Workplace Health & Safety and the Energy Resources Conservation Board. Families of the injured workers are being notified.
