Syncrude donates $500,000 to Archie Simpson Arena12/10/2008
Naming rights of Archie Simpson Arena’s multi-purpose room awarded by Council
The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and Syncrude Canada Ltd. have partnered to enhance the youth multi-purpose room within the Archie Simpson Arena located in Fort Chipewyan.
Syncrude is donating $500,000, over two years. In recognition of this donation, Council last night approved and granted Syncrude the naming rights of the Syncrude Youth Centre at the Archie Simpson Arena for 10 years. This donation is a result of working closely with the municipality, the community of Fort Chipewyan and local leaders.
“Syncrude’s donation is about engaging the youth of Fort Chipewyan,” said Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo Mayor Melissa Blake. “This arena has been a long time coming for the community and bringing it back better than it has ever been, makes the wait worthwhile.”
The Syncrude contribution will be for furniture, fixtures and equipment to be housed in the multi-purpose room, including the installation of an indoor playground structure.
“Our donation will help ensure young people in the Fort Chipewyan community have access to sports and recreation opportunities that are an important part of a healthy life,” said Syncrude President and CEO Tom Katinas. “We’re proud to partner with the municipality to provide a facility for local youth who are the future leaders of this region.”
The $17.65 million dollar redevelopment project continues, with an anticipated completion date of early spring 2009. -30- Trading Symbols for Public Syncrude Joint Venture Owners:Canadian Oil Sands Trust (via Canadian Oil Sands Limited and Canadian Oil Sands Limited Partnership) COS.UN – TSX ConocoPhillips Oilsands Partnership II (wholly owned by ConocoPhillips) COP – NYSE Imperial Oil Resources IMO – TSX/AMEX Murphy Oil Company Ltd.
