Syncrude’s Rod Hyde Aboriginal Award:
Fort McKay School Principal Rod Hyde devoted over 30 years to the students and community of Fort McKay. Although he has retired from teaching, it is his desire to continue promoting education, and to encourage students to develop their full potential by way of higher education.
In 2006, Syncrude Canada Ltd. announced the Rod Hyde Aboriginal Education Award, in honour of Rod’s commitment. Syncrude will provide one $2,000 award to an Aboriginal student from the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, who is pursuing post-secondary education at a recognized post-secondary institution. The award will be provided to an Aboriginal student pursuing studies in, but not limited to, education, sport or recreation disciplines.
