Extractive Sector Transparency Measures Act (ESTMA)

To strengthen efforts against corruption in the international extractive sector, the Government of Canada has enacted the Extractive Sector Transparency Measures Act which requires greater disclosure from companies regarding certain payments made to all levels of government in Canada and across the world. Companies are required to report on payments made during financial years beginning after June 1st, 2015. Payments to Indigenous governments are required to be reported as of June 1st, 2017.

Payments by Syncrude Canada Ltd. listed here are reported in accordance with, and are accurate for, the requirements of the Act. Due to the Act’s definitions and reporting specifications, payments reflected may differ from that reported by the company in other public disclosure, which may include but is not restricted to, its sustainability report, corporate website, social media channels and news releases.
