Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering students work in a variety of departments and perform a number of duties including:

  • Helping maintenance engineers provide technical support for repair and maintenance of equipment, solving day-to-day issues in a large maintenance shop that serves the entire plant and working with engineers, technicians and planners in fabrication and maintenance engineering
  • Help produce Operation & Maintenance Manuals, complete basic engineering calculations, produce CADD drawings, as-Built of CADD drawings, TDocs drawing searches and manipulation, collect field data to assist engineers and technologists, write memorandum of concerns, alternatives and recommendations for small jobs, prepare scopes of work for small jobs
  • Students become an integral part of the mechanical/process engineering team, providing technical and design engineering support to the major power generation station and becoming familiar with a steam generating plant, steam and gas turbine drive generators, large capacity pumping stations and distribution systems
  • Students will help investigate equipment malfunctions and breakdowns, work as part of a team to carry out design work for safety or efficiency improvements and conduct field studies to determine accuracy of existing records
