Electrical Engineering

Electrical Engineering students may be involved in design work or day-to-day electrical support including: 

  • Help prepare electrical scope of work and bill of materials for conceptual and basic engineering packages, detailed engineering packages for construction (CADD, As-Built, Tdocs drawings), material requisition technical content for bidding and purchase of material and creating or revising electrical drawings using CAD Intergraph/Microstation system
  • Help verify, collect data and field check equipment and technical information with the assistance of plant electricians
  • Help evaluate motor control and protection and coordination and system protection schemes
  • Investigate electrical equipment failures, malfunctions, and reliability problems relating to electrical power, protection, utilization and control equipment
  • Recommend and develop work procedures for safe and efficient repairs and improvements
  • As part of a team, carry out design work for safety or efficiency improvements.
  • Design packages for the installation of electrical heat tracing including scope of work and bill of materials
  • Perform necessary engineering for the purchase of electric motors and associated protective relays
  • Investigate the current carrying capability of feeder cables using computer aided tools, make recommendations regarding replacement
  • Learn and utilize Intergraph CADD workstation to create and update drawings and data sheets
