Chemical Engineering

Chemical Engineering students work under the direction of a supervisor or a process contact engineer in the day-to-day refinery operation and longer term projects with duties including:

  • Daily unit monitoring and optimization of a refinery unit operation
  • Continuous assessment of product quality, unit material balance, yield and utility/chemical consumption
  • Resolve operating problems with process, maintenance and plant engineering support
  • Plan and implement refinery unit performance test runs
  • Collecting and analyzing plant data, formulating alternative solutions to problems/opportunities and making cost effective recommendations consistent with overall plant objectives
  • Students must demonstrate the ability to apply engineering theory and skills in mass balance, fluid flow and thermodynamics
