Thank you for considering Syncrude. We’ll be in touch if we choose you for an interview.
Syncrude is not currently recruiting outside of Canada. Also, we DO NOT use recruiting or placement agencies that charge fees to job seekers (such as "placement fees", "immigration processing fees", etc.). We do not require job seekers to pay any fees as part of our recruitment process.
On occasion, Syncrude does engage recruiting agencies to help us identify potential candidates for positions, but these agencies should not charge any fees to you, the job seeker. If you are contacted by a legitimate recruiting or placement agency on behalf of Syncrude, they should not ask you for money.
Syncrude cautions job seekers from outside of Canada that there are unauthorized people using the Syncrude name and logo in emails and on websites in a fraudulent attempt to solicit up-front fees and personal information from job seekers like you. If you believe you are the victim of a scam like this, please contact the Canada Anti-Fraud Centre (1-888-495-8501 or email@example.com).
Candidates must be 18 years of age and have a minimum of a Grade 12 or High School Equivalencey Diploma, as recognized by Alberta Education or other provincial ministries of education. We also accept Grade 11 high school diplomas from Quebec (pre-1980) and from Newfoundland (pre-1983). Some candidates are required to write tests screening for basic reading comprehension, numeric and reasoning skills to ensure success in the workplace.
If you are of Aboriginal descent and live in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, please forward your resumé through one of the local employment referral offices in Fort Chipewyan, Fort McKay, Fort McMurray, Gregoire/Anzac, Janvier or Conklin.
Syncrude gives preference to qualified applicants who live in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. We also look to employment-training programs, such as the Community Co-op Apprenticeship Program, coordinated by Careers: The Next Generation, that have been designed in collaboration with government agencies, educational institutions and community leaders.
If you live outside the region and we select you for an interview, our recruitment representatives will usually start with a telephone interview and may follow up with a face-to-face meeting. Our interview team will ask you to discuss your previous work experiences and the skills you’ve used in various situations.
The Job Offer
Successful candidates receive an offer package from a Syncrude recruitment representative that outlines our generous compensation and flex benefit plan, including health and dental coverage, various insurances, retirement plan options, plenty of time off and a great savings plan. We may also bring you, and your family, to Fort McMurray to tour the city and our facilities.
A Syncrude offer is conditional on the candidate fulfilling requirements which includes completing a successful health assessment to measure his/her ability to perform the job.
In some cases, Syncrude will provide comprehensive relocation assistance to offset the cost of moving to your new city. Some employees are also eligible for mortgage interest or rental subsidies. Information on these programs will be included in your offer package.
