Miranda Beaton
Opportunity Maker
When she was the manager of a local flower shop, Miranda Beaton would help people nurture their relationships with loved ones. Today, as a human resource coordinator in Fort McKay, she’s helping people nurture their skills and grow their futures. “There are so many opportunities for Aboriginal people in this area right now,” says Miranda. “To be the person who helps them achieve their dreams is really fulfilling.” Miranda credits the help, faith, and inspiration of Fort McKay councilor Cecilia Fitzpatrick and her young son for guiding her to where she is today. “My son has faith in me which helps me to have faith in myself,” she says. With several professors and teachers in her family as guides, Miranda is working hard to further her education, aiming for a business management or human resources degree. It’s doubtful, though, that, once achieved, her affection for learning will end there: “No goal is ever too big to reach.”
