Michelle Voyageur
Pathfinder
With a pocket full of diplomas and degrees, the world was her oyster. Michelle Voyageur could have gone anywhere and done anything, but instead returned to Fort Chipewyan to take up a position as the education coordinator for the Mikisew Cree First Nation. “I always wanted to come back to Fort Chipewyan and share my knowledge and expertise with the community.” Michelle also teaches Business Administration courses part-time at Keyano College, the same institution where she began her own post-secondary pursuits in 1997, followed by further studies at the main campus in Fort McMurray. Afterwards, she continued on to the University of Lethbridge, where she completed a Bachelor of Science degree. As she nears completion of her Master of Science, Michelle reflects, “My late grandparents Alice and Harry were strong believers in education and instilled good family values.” It also helped that her aunt, Dr. Cora Voyageur, and her uncles, Brian and Mark, had blazed a trail before her, showing her the value of education. A family tradition continues.
