Scholarships
In honour of the retirement of an outstanding local principal and teacher, Syncrude has introduced the Rod Hyde Aboriginal Education Award, a $2,000 scholarship to be awarded beginning in 2007. As principal at Fort McKay School, Rod opened doors and changed countless young lives for the better for more than 30 years. The award will go to a student from the Wood Buffalo region who is pursuing education at a recognized post-secondary institution.
In all, Syncrude awarded 18 scholarships of $2,000 each to Aboriginal students in 2006 to help them pursue post-secondary education in such fields as business, engineering, education, information technology, nursing, natural resources technology, and office administration. Since 1989, about $325,000 in scholarships has been awarded to 170 Aboriginal students.
Information on eligibility and application for the Rod Hyde and other Syncrude scholarships can be found on Syncrude’s website at www.syncrude.com, or contact Lana Hill at 780-790-6356 / 1-800-667-9494 or by email.
